Make up Current Event Quiz Opportunity

story 1)  California: Self-driving cars much have driver behind wheel.
This article was about, California making draft that are not finalized yet on how there should be a driver behind the wheel. On December 16, California made the executive decision to law that there should be a driver be hind the wheel no matter what, because the google car has been proven not to be the safest so they want to prevent that. The DMV workers made a draft and sent it to google and everyone. This is significant because it has to do with our future and new technology and this is important to know because we need to stay up to date on whats happening around in the world. I do believe that the story is balanced and the sources they used for credible because those sources were The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The only unanswered question i have after reading this story was what was their reasoning behind making this car in the first place. I did think that it was a good article because it was very entreating and i was very interested in it, i never got bored.

story 2) Police: Women drove car into Scientology doors because church is 'evil'
This article was about Erin McCurrdy and how she drove into the Church of Scientology on Monday night because she thought they were 'evil' and bad. This story is significant because because it was in the state of Texas and we need to be aware of those kind of people. The sources in the story were all the witnesses and the police officers. These people were credible because they were at the scene of the crime, and they're officers. I do believe that this story is balanced. The only unanswered question i have after reading this is, what was her punishment? I do think this was a good article because i was genuinely interested.

story 3) Cops: Mother shaves daughters hair, convinces her shes dying so she can scam money
A female mother Juanita Garcia has been lying to everyone that her daughter has cancer, which in fact she does not! Some one called a tip into the police station that it was all a scam, so officers investigated. This mother told her daughter that she only had two months to live to get more attention on social media. She was successful on gaining money from people fro this cause. This story is very significant because it shows that people will do just about anything. It is important to know so the in the future you can make sure your giving money to right people. There is only on source for the story which is the girl who reported her, and at first i didn't think she was very credible but it ended up that she was. And the story is quite balanced if i say so myself. Last week she was arrested for exposition to a child. i really want to know why this women in the right mind would do this?? like that is not okay! I did think that this was a good article because it showed me how crazy people in Texas really are, and it was very grabbing.

story 4) Lawsuit reveal unreported death after Austin's police stunned man
This article was about how James Fred Sizer died in polices custody being shocked with a stun gun. This happened on March 6th on Bittern Hollow near Sizer's home. This important to know because we need to know what is happening with our death files and how if we die while in custody we may not be reported. The sources in story are the police and his family, i do think that these sources are credible. The only unanswered question i have after reading this story is how unorganized is the law, it must be super unorganized because they clearly don't know is someones dead or not, or they just don't care. This story was interesting and i was glad i read because it made me realize how much i don't want to go to jail.

story 5) Austin ranks 1st on list of 'booziest' cities
This article was about how Austin has the most people drink and out of all of the states. This is significant because it shows how many people really drink in Austin. The source is MATCH and they did this by having a poll on the most drinking singles and Austin won, also in Austin it was proven that men drink more than me. So i do think this source was credible, also this article was balanced. The only unanswered question i have is how much on average do people in Austin drink daily, weekly, and monthly. They would be cool to see. I did think it was a good story because i was interested thw whole time and it had a lot of information that is valuable.

Social Media

From instagram likes to twitter re tweets, social media is slowly taking over. One of the big trends going around is snapchat.
A major part of snapchat is your score.Your score just says how much you snapchat. Another big snapchat quality is your story. Your story allows you to post yo your account where anyone who is your friend can see it instead of only sending it to one person. Instagram is easily the most popular. From the followers to your likes, instagram has been a major effect of ruining society. Instagram has set the perfect person from the slim body to the amazing hair and makeup. Social media has come up with what you should and should not look like.
Another big social media app is twitter. Twitter was made in 2006. To our generation twitter is considered old. On twitter, re tweets are a big deal and if you get 1000+, you instantly become famous. Social media has designed 'social media famous'. Which means you dont need to have any talent to be famous you just need to have good looks.
Almost all social media apps have a like button. So another big thing that goes into instagram, twitter, Facebook, etc. is how much you like it, and it has become a competition to see how many like you can get. In my opinion social media is fine but, only if you use it for the right reasons.
Like Lisa Horn once said," Everything you do on social media impacts your personal brand. How do you want to be known

News Story Finished

                                                                     New Teachers

New teachers have been brought here to campus. Students have taken a high interest in their new teachers. Senior Ezra Hankin has teacher Mr Myers, a new english teacher. "I think that Mr. Myers is a great fit for McCallum because he is able to talk to people on their individual level, and he is very humble." Hankin said. Students Miranda Vandenberg, junior, and Eesha Shoaib, freshman, have choir teacher Mr. Nelson. Mr. Nelson, is a rather new teacher who was here two years ago and left, but is back for more. "My Favorite thing about Mr. Nelson is his understanding that we have lives." Vandenberg jokes. Vandenberg also ads, " Mr. Nelson is a good teacher because he is good at pushing his students without crushing them with requirements."
" My teacher has helped me advance in this subject by teaching all the material slow, making sure we know what's happening." Shoaib said. She continued by saying," Mr Nelson, is a good fit for McCallum because he is super chilled like the rest of the faculty."
Although they're new teachers joined on campus, all of the old teachers help make them feel welcomed. To gather more information on the McCallum faculty, visit the MAC website.

Attribution Worksheet

1) A reporter should attribute the details at the end of the first sentence.
2) The general rule cant be applied without exception if there is a second quote in the second sentence.
3)I think attribution occurs a lot in a news story because you have to put them everywhere after there is a quote, and we tend to have lots of quotes.
4) An attribution is often found at the beginning towards the end of the story and end of the sentence.
5) As many as needed can be quoted in a story, because everyone needs to be included and you need to know who said what.
6) When starting a new paragraph a reporter should not start the paragraph when asked, because we already know you asked them a question you don't need to tell us again.
7) An attributions should start at the beginning of the sentence when you want to start with person said instead of said person.
8) An attribution should start at the end of the sentence when you want to end with said person not person said.
9) An attribution should appear in the middle of a sentence when you want to combine two different quotes from the same person.
10) You should you use tone words for verbs for an attribution in a news story.
11) The tense you should have in your attribution depends on what the interviewer says his or her quotes, how they feel.
12) Speakers should be identified on first reference with both first and last name.
13) Speakers should be identified on second reference by just there last name.
14) The rules for comma and period placement at the end of a direct quotation are that periods should be inside quotation.
15) The difference between a direct and indirect quote is that a direct quote has there quote word for word while an indirect quot has there quote paraphrased,
16) In an attribution tag the speaker comes first then the attribution word.
17) It is appropriate to put the attribution word before the speaker when all of this happens before the quote, not after.
18) " I'm proud of each and every person on this team." Said Coach Ed Hullender.
19)   Junior Laura Duke, the only Wheeler High student to audition who is not currently on the dance team said, "Dancing in the Super Bowl will be a once in a lifetime opportunity."
20) Coach Steve Lattizori said," They're not real wrestlers, and i think it actually hurts the sport. I wish they would change there names from wrestling to acting."
21) Correct.
22) In correct because the attribution should have gone in front of the quote.
23) In correct because the attribution should have been in front of the quote that was given.
24) Correct.
25) In correct there should have been a period instead of a comma in the end quotation before the attribution.
26) In correct because there should have not been a coma after the quotation marks instead there should have been a period in the quotation marks.

Current Event Experience 2.1

1) The little known perk that has people "raising eyebrows" in Austin is, the fact that council members are getting free passes to a well known music festival called ACL. Ann Kitchen and Ora Houston just kept there passes because they felt nothing is wrong with that fact they were getting them. They were given to all the council members and the mayor of Austin to observe the festival and make sure everything goes okay. The Parks and Recreation defends there act by saying it was for the job, and they need to observe.

2) The state of Oklahoma has implemented a stay of all death-penalty executions because they have
bought a drug that is no longer available in the US. and its only to be told by the federal food and drug administration that getting the drug is legal. Some of the other states are dealing with the issue by improvising a solution by trading drugs used in lethal injections. Midazolam is a drug that is used before surgery to make you feel sleepy and relaxed. This is the heart of the story because this is one of the drugs they use.

3)  Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu barred his ministers from visiting a contested Old City   holy site and ordered all all police to stop any of his men who tried. He did this because it has two major Islamic shrines including the prohibition on non-Muslim player. Everyone responded to this by thinking that the only reasons he is doing this is because he is trying to divide the compound. Muhanad Halabi is a law student at Al Quds University who was shot dead bu security forces after he stabbed two Orthodox men in the Old city and injured one of their wives and toddler son.

4) Svetlana Alexievich won the Nobel Prize for literature yesterday. She is most famous for the works of  giving a voice to women and men who lived through major events like the Soviet union and others. It is rarity that she won because, she is the 14th women to win this prize and in her works is mainly notification. In her works is literature and journalism blended. She states," The greater part of my path has been traveled, but much more work remains ahead of me, and many new turns. I cannot let myself slide." about her future.

5)  Professor Emeritus Daniel S. Hamermesh mad a career decision to, not return to campus because the new carry law has made him fear for his life. The Statesman reporter found out about this decision because this information was put in the student news paper. He is a first for UT because people have only threatened to do this action and he has been the only one to fully follow threw. The other factors that contributed to this decision was all his mental problems.

Observation Piece 400 words

As I walk outside from the bright blue double doors exiting from the McCallum High School building I take a deep breath and spell gasoline from all the cars parked right outside. I see tiny little ants crawling up and down all the milk cartons that sit outside. A car passes by blaring its loud music. There are a bunch of trees with trashcans right next to them, and with the trees being over grown in matches with the big green bushes over lapping the ground. The sun blazing at 11:30 with leaves falling from the trees because of the wind, you can tell that fall is here. The three flags hanging from the poles swaying back and forth because of the wind. A tall guy walks out the front door and is humming a happy tune, all the bikes chained up to poles trying not get stolen. As I glimpse in front of me I see all the beautiful flowers. Roses, Daisy’s, violets, and so many others. The rough benches and poles outside with the hard rock shows are school has texture. I feel the warm air the symbol’s that fall is here and winter is soon to come.  I hear all the birds chirping in the air and see them flying to their nests where they go and feed their little babies and share food. As cars pass in the street I look to my right and see two little girls playing the there drive way. Their house is a white nice house, looks about one story.  All the dead grass in the courtyard tells me that it is getting cold. A nice lady walks outside talking to the girl who sits next to me. Both were very nice to one another. As I walk back inside I am breezed with a brush of cold air, as I walk down the long and narrow hall all I hear is silence.  I see a big shaggy dog whom was with a police officer. They go into a room asking if everyone could leave to check the room. The dog was a big blonde dog who seemed very friendly with everyone.

Current Event Quiz 1.3

1)The central message of the speech that Pope Francis delivered yesterday was that we should stop all the bad stuff in our economy and try to unite as one instead of all ones and he delivered the speech to 1.2 billion Catholics. The story illustrated the huge interest for his address by trying to abolish the death penalty.  This speech was historic because Pope Francis said that we should break out of polarization and paralysis and use its power to heal the "open wounds" of a planet torn by hatred, greed, poverty and pollution.  Congress invited him to come.

2)The broad difference of opinion that exists about the incident that was the heart of Thursday's UIL state executive committee hearing was that is this was all occurred because of raciest remarks said by the referee. The likely hood that John Jay assistant football coach Mack Breed and players Micheal Moreno and Victor Rojas will return to school are very high. Mike Motheral, the chairmen of the committee for the hearing, was most frustrated that central figures in the incident -(Moreno, Rojas, Watts, and Breed)- didn't appear before the committee during Thursday's 31/2- hour hearing.

3)The action that caused more than five dozen parents and students to assemble outside of East's Austin's Maplewood Elementary School on Thursday was the protest of 100 people to change the class- size limits. Over crowing is what made the school district have to take this action and the sixth graders at the school were hurt by this action because they were taking all the sixth grade teachers away to help teach forth grade. The outcome was about the same of a similar protest at Bryker Woods Elementary School in Central Austin.

4)The legal opinion that state senator John Whitmire, D-Huston, asked from the attorney general was a law on whether the state's new open carry law will allow holstered firearms to be carried on school property. The new law he asked will take effect on January 1st. Whitmire interprets the law that guns are only allowed to be outside on school campus not inside. The attorney general has 180 days to answer Whitmire's question and it may not matter anyways because of the state law on gun's.

BOARDER PATROL AGENT INDICTED IN KILLING A TEEN.
This story really caught my eye . This story was about how a boarder agent killed a Mexican teenager and what surprised me was the fact that he is only one out of three to let this happen in the past 20 years. Only two other agents have been charged in killing teen immigrants. I think that this is a very interesting topic because to this day it still surprises me that people are willing to take someones life just because people want to come to the amazing country that is America. But i do understand that is could have bee  for self deffence and he was new to the job and might have known.

Quote

"One time I was ridding my bike and I forgot to tie my shoelaces so, then my shoelaces got caught in the pedals and after a long time of struggling the bike fell and I went with it. As I was trying to get up a big dog came and let me remind you I'm terrified of dogs. So the dog grabs on to my hair and wont let go and I think this is the end, my life is going to be over. Eventually the dog lets go with two big chunks of my hair and I was bald for about three months. So the lesson I learned from that was to always tie my shoes before I do anything."

Current Event Quiz 2

1a) The decision Mike Perrin knew since Labor Day was that he could possibly be the new mens athletic director.  This decision was made because the UT men athletic director, Steve Patterson, would soon be out. The specific changes that have so many folks at UT unhappy are the fact that they wanted to know sooner.

2)  The CIA director was on the UT campus yesterday because they were releasing some important documents in Washing, DC. The large trend that lead to the announcement at the Bass Lecture Hall was that the government is trying to be more open and open minded. A PDB is a program database and they said it was such an important document because it is such a major part of history to know what happened and what is happening.

3) Hungarian security forces on Wednesday that has human rights groups outraged and that was that they use water cannon on migrants. The alternate routes are their targets forced to consider and those routes are not also a good option because those routes are being crowded be pedestrians.

4) 14 Year old McCarthur HIgh School student was detained and hand cuffed because he brought a clock to school and some students believed that it could be a bomb. The actions the school officials took on Monday and they defended there actions all on probabol cause. Half a million people in clouding Obama were shocked and ashamed.

5) I personally would be ashamed just because it sad that we have had to come to a point on where we have to question students project and for all a bomb. I myself was shocked as well when I head about this story. I dont believe that this was just because of all the races. I don't think that this should have been published in the paper just because I know that it is going to upset a lot of different people. But i do understand that this news and although I'm not proud to admit this I did think this piece was interesting, and i do believe that people would agree with me. If I was the manager of this news paper i would most likely not have plastered all over the front i would probally would have kept it towards the end because in my opinion it not really that much important.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!!!!!!

Current Event Quiz 1

1) The university of Texas is under fire for hiring two graduate assistants back in 2012 because two out of the four of them were involved in a mass harassment and had just got out of jail. While they were getting the job at UT the people there were given false and in accurate information. Usually when the campus figures out that somethings has gone wrong they investigate. But spokesmen Garry Susswein came to the conclusion that since they weren't university employees nor had any supervisory roles there was no need for an investigation. Although UT does not forbid anyone to work there if they have a criminal record, Anyone who has been convicted in the past seven years is generally not allowed to work at UT. I do not believe that the university had the full story before hiring these two men because if UT wanted publicity they wouldn't try to get bad publicity they would want good publicity.

2) In the case of Freddie Gray, their family would receive over 5.7 million dollars; was the deal the city of Baltimore made on Tuesday. The mayor supported this deal because she wants her city to heal and in order for her to do so they need to move on and this could potentially taxpayers many millions more in damages.

3) Vise Chancellor Sig-mar Gabriel of Germany announced yesterday that he could take half a million refuges a year "for several years". Some observers criticized the policy he announced and questioned whether generous asylum policies are enticing more migrants to make the dangerous trek for Western Europe. The German leaders responded the criticism by . Germany was led by  Berlin and that's why they responded the way they did.

5) Democratic front-runner Hilliary Clinton apologized on Tuesday for . The likely action by two Republicans in Congress makes it seems this issue will continue to be in the news is . Co-mingling is a mix or blend,  and the two things co mingled in this story was . Clinton's earlier mistake that slow yo admit was a mistake was .
